What is an IGS file?
If you wonder what all those cryptic files in your installation folder are, here is a short explanation of them:.geopcdx = is the 3D model itself and it's properties.dscv = auto numbering selection list for rolling stock.ban = Animated geo section.lua = script files which control animations.
Files that contain the .igs file extension are most commonly associated with 2D and 3D vector graphic images. The IGS file format is based on the IGES (Initial Graphics Exchange Specification) standard. This standard is used by a variety of CAD (computer aided drawing) applications.
IGS files are saved in a text-based ASCII format. This allows for the saving and exporting of vector data. The IGS format has become the standard file format for transferring 3D model files between different CAD programs. This allows a user who has created a model file in one application to send it to a user who does not have that same software program without worrying about whether or not the recipient will be able to open the file.

What is IGS Viewer?
IGS Viewer boasts a user-friendly interface for beginner users, and in the same time, provides a full range of tools for navigation and analyzing the 3D object. For advanced users of this kind, they can view most of the well-known commands on any 3D viewer. Help is available for both beginners and non-technical users. There is also an explanation on how to use every tool, and what that tool does, while using IGS Viewer.
Interesting features on an IGS viewer is Tree View, where it shows all the markers that are used in 3D objects. The user can easily hide or unhide them, and see all of the objects part by part. With IGS Viewer, with the exception of zooming and panning, the user will be able to see the objects in 2D in any of the four sides (top, bottom, left, and right). He can also add shades to the object to see how it will look like as a real object, or to only see its wireframe. IGS viewer also allows changing the color of the wireframes, or the shade of the 3D object.
